It was just over a year ago, August 2006, and right
there in the back of the seminar room a discussion ensued that
was both commentary about what was actually happening and
NOT happening at that "Super Saturday" training event in Las
Vegas.
It was like watching a funeral procession
as our leader recounted just about every worn out, ancient,
and completely ineffective MLM trick I had ever seen in my
brief but hugely successful career in the Home Based Direct
Sales industry.
It was like everything that could be done
wrong, was being done wrong, almost as if a saboteur had
entered the room. But no, this was the company's owner simply
revealing the truth about what that company was all
about ... just grabbing the money.
Yes, what we were being taught were
tricks and techniques to just "get the money!".
I was feeling very uneasy for I had
always operated my business with higher standards and a bigger
vision, and my customers where now getting this education in
"Grab The Money".
 You see I was the poster boy, the huge success story
for this company. I had been on the cover of a national
magazine touting that program.
In those moments, suddenly I realized
that I was selling something very different than what the
company I represented was selling.
From the corner of my eye I noticed
what looked like a deep discussion being conducted by 2 of my
fellow leaders, 2 men with way more experience in the industry
than I had, so I approached.
As I leaned in, this is what I heard
...
"What if there was a company that delivered
products with true value, money back guaranteed value; and
that these products were meaningful and positioned in a
massive growth market? ...
And what if you put an income engine in place
that would provide not only huge income, but would also spread
the money around more fairly than the traditional 2 up model?

At that very moment I realized that what
I had been a part of in a big way was simply not the very best
it could be.
There were too many casualties, too many
broken hearts and dreams, too many people feeling
disenfranchised because these people had joined under the
auspices of making money was somehow going to be easy with a
98% automated system.
And when that didn't happen for so many;
when these people realized that success in that business
required more effort and skills than they had ... that it was
not "automated income" as the presentations made it sound,
they were left asking what did they really receive for their
money? Not much!
Several Months Later ... after working to
help improve that company, after continuing stewardship of my
business and my customers, showing up day after day delivering
added value ... I was tired.
 Sure I had plenty of money, I had just purchased my
dream home, yet there was something missing ...
That's when the little voice in my head
started talking, the one that made me realize I was right back
where I started, working 7 days a week, 15-20 hours a day,
having no life, just making money.

We opened pre-launch in late spring, and

to imagine walking into one of those boardroom presentations
and explaining to my potential client how the value of what I
was going to do for them, well it simply didn't matter. That
all that was at stake was money either them making more of it
or their customer's making more. I don't think those meetings
would have lasted very long.
Product quality is important in fact the

product line would make doing the business, and succeeding at

multiple 7 figure success in what I thought at the time was
the best of those programs, that at the end of the day, sooner
or later, you are going to really ask yourself "Does your
opportunity and product line actually serve people both
economically and in the quality of their lives?". I can tell

If making lots of money as you are
building your business is a good thing, why not be able to
make lots of money as you build it, and then continue to make
lots of money after you have built your enterprise through
residual income.
When I was a serial traditional small
business owner, I thought the path to riches was to start
companies, nurture them and then sell them. What I found out
from doing it 4 times was not only is it very difficult to do
in terms of time and resources, but also everything has to
fall in place, and there are so many things that can go wrong
when you are relying on employees.
I turned around 1 large failing company,
and started 3 other businesses from scratch between 1987 and
2004. During that time I noticed that after working like a
slave, as the lowest paid person in the company (owners get
paid last), that after about 2 years I was tired and wanting
to be able to slow down a bit to enjoy the fruits of my labor.
When you have an established business, lifestyle begins to
become available to you because you have built leverage into
your business. You are paying other people wholesale to do
work for you, work that you no longer have to do. You also
have at that time established customer relationships, and much
of your revenue becomes very stable.
In the traditional 2 up program that is
simply not the case. When you study that model, you will
quickly see that your high dollar income happens only when you
continue to recruit new customers. Take a couple of weeks off,
and your business dies for a couple of weeks. Sure you can
earn some decent income off upgrade sales, but once the very
best customers "qualify" off your pay register, you are done
making money from them for good. So after you have made a
substantial effort to help your customer succeed at the end of
that success is you now having a competitor that brings no
more revenue into your business. Would you start a traditional
business that operated this way? I know I would
not.
There is something inherently wrong with
that model as it always results in just a few people making
all of the money on the backs of the Good Unsuspecting Money
People (GUMPs). Because in these plans there are usually 1/2/5
"Pass Up" sales to qualify, you have to actually be able to
operate your business, build your pipeline with zero revenue
coming in for your efforts for as long as it takes to qualify.
And when you finally get it figured out,
and make that first sale, it actually goes to your up line
mentor (ouch!). The attrition rate with this plan is
staggering and as I found out, those first 2 sales are the
most difficult sales you will ever make.
Imagine yourself trying to establish a
relationship with a potential customer only to have to give
them to your mentor as a pass up sale. It is almost
impossible. Yes, it sounds good perpetual referrals endless
high dollar cash flow quick riches. But the reality is that
perpetual referrals do not happen. Your potential first 2
customers are skittish about being handed to some stranger
after they got to know you.
I know, I enrolled more front line people
in a 2 up program between January 2005 and January 2007 than
anyone else in the direct sales industry. I produced a sale or
enrollment per day in that company and I had some months when
it was more than 1 per day, as many as 46 in 1 month; 46
people at $1,000 commission per person.
Back in January 2007, when I went to
visit the founders of at
the production studio in Oregon, one of the first things we
discussed was the compensation plan. I had already designed a
hybrid plan for my new company, and I knew it was not only
powerful, but that it promoted team building, helping others
succeed, and long term success for all.
After some discussion and looking at what
was the original LP Unlimited compensation plan, we came
